PERSONAL ITEMS.
Tho Hon. D. Bnddo (Minister for Internal Affairs), who is at present in Christchurch, is expected to arrive from the south this, morning. The Hon. T. Mackenzie (Minister for Agriculture), ..who is at present in Dunedin, is expected to return to Wellington next Thursday. Mr. A. B. Muir, of Gisbo'rne, arrived in the city from the north, last evening. After a long illness, Mr. John Milonlilil; formerly manager of the U'aikaraka Estate, on the East Coast, died, in Wellington on August 5, much regretted by tho many friends he had made during the fifteen years of his residence in New Zraland. Mr. M'Donald hnd previously managed two other properties with -sue- , cess, and enjoyed the entire confidence and trust of his employers. The pallbearers were Messrs. W. C. Buchanan, M P Colin Campbell, Clareville, and Jaines M'lntosli. The Kev. James Paterson, the venerable Presbyterian minister, conducted the service at.the graveside. Dr. Lindo-Ferguson, of Dunedin, is a visitor to Wellington. Madame Emma Calve, the famous operatic prima donna, is to commence her New Zealand tour at Auckland on Wednesday evening of next week. Mr. Talbot, of the Post and Telegraph stuff, Dunedin,- is in Wellington, makiug preparations for tho-issue'of the new, tefegraph forms which are to dispenso with tlie envelope system , altogether. He is now instructing a number of the local staff in tho method of folding the new forms, so that there will be nu delay when the system is inaugurated. Mr. George • Portus, the well-known theatrical agent,' and a one-time resident of Wellington, has beeu appointed organiser in Australia of a series of entertainments to be given in aid of Lady Dudley's bush nursing scheme. . Mr. Portus was last •in Wellington with tho 'Teter Pan" Company. Commander James G. Breincr, E.N., whose death took place in a private hospital, at Darlinghurst, New South Wales, recently, was the eldest son-of Mr. J'ohn Do Coiircy Bremer, of "Claramina," Rose Bay, and* grandson of the late Admiral Sir James John Gordon Brcmer, K.C.8., K.C.H., who was Commodore of the British Squadron at the capture of the Island of Chusan, on July 6, 1810. The late Commander Bremer entered the service a.? a naval cadet in April, 1866, and he became sub-lieutenant 11 years later. In March, 1597, he retired with the rank of commander. The deceased ' had been a cadet with Captain Lindemau, the present shipping master of tho port of Sydney, in the old Challenger. During the Egyptian war of 1882 he held the rank of lieutenant, and he received the Egyptian medal and Khedive's bronze- star. He also commanded H.M.S. Royalist when she was in Sydney. The death occurred on Saturday last at Maunu Mountain, Whangarei, of Mr. John T. Millington, father of Mr. and Mrs. John T. Millington, of Wellington. Deceased was in his 78th year.
