The postal authorities advise that the Warrimoo, which left Sydney on August 13, is bringing an Australian mail. She is due to arrive here on Wednesday after-_ noon. The mails'which left Wellington on Julv 8 per the s.s. Mokoia, and connected at Papeete with the San. Francisco mail steamer, Mariposa, arrived in London on -Auffiist 13. The City Solicitor (Sir. J. O'Sliea) is looking into the question as to whetner the business of the electrical department of the corporation cun lie affected by a recent decision of Sir. Justice Neville in the High Court uf bluglaiid. His Honour found that under the Electric Lighting Act, ISS2, the powers, of a municipality in this connection were expressly limited to the supply uf electrical energy, and that Hie wiving of a consumer's premises and the sale of fittings. constituted . a separate business which municipalities were not entitled to carry oh. . When the matter was 'iiionlioutid yesterday lu Hit Mayor (Mr. Wilford)' he said that possibly certain New Zealand statutes gave authority which municipalities at Home did not possess. It is understoucl that an appeal uill be lodged against the decision of Mr. Justice NevilK .-.■.. ■ During the hearing of a case in the Magistrate's" Court" yesterday morning, a witness stated in reference to a goods train that one could not be certain what time it would arrive at-Porirua from S p.m. on Saturday until 1 a.m. on , Sunday, it might bo any time during theperiod of 5 hours named. ■ The number of tramways shelter-sheds could be iucreased with advantage-to the public. Ono is badly needed on Thorndon Quay, at tho corner of the street which forms the tramway approach to tlio Thorndon (ifanawntu) Station. Anither is needed opposite tho Hotel Cecil, and the shelter' at the eastern end of Courtenay Place—probably tho busiest junction in the whole of the serviceis far too small. On the occasion of the sixth anniversary of the opening of the Seamen's Mission .building, arid the twelfth anniversary. of the establishment of the Mission in Wellington, special services will be held on Sunday next, when the Wellington Navals will attend. A lecture on wireless telegraphy will be delivered by Sir. T. Buckley, of the Telegraph Department.
