A GIFT TEA. (Prom Our Special Correspondent.) A very successful gift tea, as a preliminary to a bazaar, which will shortly be held for the purpose of raisin? funds for the establishment of an Anglican Church at Koro Koro, was held in the schoolroom on Saturday afternoon. The attendance (considering the weather) was very good. The gifts forthcoming wero numerous, and of a saleable order. During the afternoon musical items were given by Master N, Brian and Miss E. l'omfrcy. Mesdames Brian and-H. Fleet were the promoters •of the tea. PETONE ROWING CLUB. The ninth annual meeting of the club was held in tho Oddfellows' Hall, Petone, on Friday eyening, Mr. K. Mothes (natron) presiding. The election of officers resulted as follows :—Patron, Mr. R. Mothes (re-elected); president, Mr. A. G. Saunders (re-eleclcdj -, vice-presidents, Dr. Ross, Messrs. It. W. Short,' A. Coles, H. J. Palmer, 0. T. Lowiu, J. Cotton, J. W. Martin (rc-elect-cd), and Messrs. T. Barnes and T. Wilson; captain, Mr. Mooro (re-elected),' vice-captain, Mr. L. Drummond;. treasurer, Mr. Jas. Daley; secretary, Mr. 'C. H. Burridge; committee, Messrs. H. Struthers, L. Fcdlu, A. Driscoll, W. .1. Baker,' C. Drummond, W. Symons, B. Tremain; selection committee, Messrs. R. Moore, A. Driscoll and L. Drummond; club-race committee, Messrs. A. Driscoll, C. H. Burridge, H. Struthers; delegates to the Wellington Rowing Association, Messrs.-B.Marris, L. Drummond, and C. H. Burridge; auditors, Messrs. 1!,. Cruiekshank uud .0; Lynsky. . The report and balance-sheet showed tho club to progress, the liabilities amounting to .SIGG 4s. Gd., and assets valued at J3SGI ss. Id:, leaving a surplus, of ,£398 Os. 7d. The club was represent ten at the Wellington and Hawko s Bay Regattas, being very successful at both, winning the Maiden Fours; Youths' Foai>, and Maiden Pairs, while the club's crews were placed in'the other events in which they started. Representatives of tho club wero also second in the Youths' Fours, Wellington Regatta. An order has been nlaced with Mr. H. and G. Morton, of Wellington, for a Best and Best fomv The club has prospects of a very successful coming season. . The services of Mr. R. Crawford as coach have again been, secured.
The club's Bazaar Committee met tho same evening, and good progress was reported. The Ladies' Committeo are working very hard to make tho bazaar a success. . ;
BIBTJE-CLASS GATHERING. The annual gathering in connection with the Hutt Valley Bible Classes was held at Knox Church, Lower Hutt, yesterday. The churchjyas well filled at all the services, and Mr. A; Thomson . (leader of the Knox Church class) presided. Special addresses were given by the Rev. J. Bain M'Donald, of Masterton, and tho loaders of the other classes also assisted in the Services: The soloists for the day were Messrs. E. R.' and J. Lees, and Miss Mabery.,.
C.E. SOCIETY FORMED. A senior Christian Endeavour Society has been formed at Lower Hutt Wesley Church. . The officers' elected for tho year are as follow:—President, Rev. B. F. Rothwell;' vice-presidents, Mrs. Shaw, and Mr. Humphries; secretary, Mr. L. P. Skinner; assistant secretary, Mr. L. oenness; pianist,. Miss P. Jenness. The society will hold its'initial meeting next Tuesday evening, when tho committee will be elected.
; HUTT SKATING RINK. ' Tho managers of the Lower Hutt Skating Rink announce that a grand carnival will be held on Wednesday next, August 17,. and the whole of the proceeds will be handed over to'the Children's Hospital Fund. In addition to a very attractive programme, a , ladies' hockey match, Hutt v. Petone, will be held, which should create much interest and amusement. Twenty prizes are offered for the various other events, which include a unique novelty race for boys. Seats are available for booking at the rink. ;
'[ """PETONE PALACE RINK; "'; . Skaters continue to throng the floor at the Petone Palace Theatre,. and, in fact, the four daily sessions ~l'ast. week were always crowded. Arrangements are complete for the ' grand ' carnival which is being held next Wednesday. As thero are only a few seats left .patrons, the management ask intending patrons to book early.
