WAIWETU CLUB. The Waiwctu Club's tournament in connection with the president's trophy was commenced'last Saturday. Messrs. Cook and Millar tied for first place. HUTT CLUB. The monthly button competition of the Hutt Club oh Saturday last resulted in a win for A. Treadwell with a net score of 75. - '
AT PALMERSTON AND OTAKI. (By Telegraph.—Special Correspondent.) Falmerston, August 14. Tho junior challenge cup has created' quite an interest amongst the competitors, and there was a good muster on Saturday, for-., the second qualifying round. A very strong wind was Wowing over tho links,, and J. M. Morris's scoro of 102 was.a.good performance, and much better than any round which ho has hitherto returned a card for. N. Wright also sent in a good card of 107. The following qualified:—P,. E. Daniell; 219; J. Morris,-228; J. E. Daniell, 229; N. Wright, 229; C. Smith, 230; W.'.L. Fitzherbert; 231; D. V. Reid, 235; N. Waldogravc, 239. Basil Pratt just missed a place, his two rounds being 240- CiV the play-off,"Waldegravis plays Morris, P. E.-Daniell plays W. L. Fitz(lerbort, C Smith plays J. This should suit most of bur players'. ; '■ ' " . : The team that went down to Otaki sustained a severe defeat, only winning two out of the eleven matches. O'Reilly was in good form, playing on his own links, and inflicted a surprise and feat on Byroii Brown, while E. H. Abraham, an cvManawatu player, who was playing : substitute, was the other man who won. The following are tho results, the names of Otaki players being mentioned first in each .case:—Bevan boat M'Hardy; Kirk beat Cooper; Toney :beat Guorv; Winterburn beat Slack; Gray beat Seifcrt; W. Byron Brown lost to O'Reilly; Hopkins beat Wilson; Bacchus beat Adams; Simcox beat Monro.; Borgcssen beat Stewart; and Podevin lost to Edward H. Abraham. The team had a very.enjoyable visit, and liked the links very much. They report that a good number of Otaki players are Mining up to tho local tournament here. / . AUSTRALIAN CHAMPIONSHIPS. By Telegraph—Pres? Association— CoTiyrißhU Adelaide, August 13. At golf, tho Professionals' Stroko Championship of Australia was won by Souter, of New South .Wales. For tho two rounds his score was 153. In the Australian Open Championship, there were 35 contestants. The first day's play resulted in Carnegie Clark (New South Wales) leading, with' a scoro of 151; Felstead (Victoria) being J second, with. 155; Souter (New South Wales) third, with 156; and M. Scott (Victoria) fourth, with 160. Other scores ranged to 191. (Rec. August 15, 0.18 a.m.) Adelaide, August 14. The open cliampionship of Australia was won by Carnegie Clark (New South Wales) with a score of .306, an Austral-ian-record for a four-round competition Soutar's score was 317, and that of'i Bruce Poarco (Tasmania) 319.
