MAKARA COUNTY COUNCIL.

The Maksira County Council met yesterday.. Present: Councillors F. T. Moore (chairman); T. H. Haggerty, S. Byrant, G. -Monk, H. Eastwood, and H. Hawkins. ' The Karon' Borough Council asked the council to reconsider its refusal to pay half cost of the proposed concrete bridge on the read at the foot of Mαkara Hill, and pointed out that the borough had power to levy on Jlakara County for part maintenance- of its main! road, and, since the secession of a portion of tlio borough, had had power to levy on the county for maintenance of both main and, side roads. — Keeeii'ed; ' It. was agreed that all metalling bo stopped for the season, and that all casual labour be discharged. ' The council agreed to subsidise pound for pound tlio cost of surveying a road from Crofton to Ohariu. .Mr. llaco, of llace and Nicholson, contractors, waited upon the council in reference to maintenance of the road between his quarry and Ngiihourang.i, and stated that his firm was quite willing to contribute towards' the cost of maintaining the road. Accounts amounting to £320 Bs. lid. were passed for payment.
