Palmerston North News. A very enjoyable party was given by Mrs.'K. S. Abraham last week to celebrate the birthday of her youngest daughter.. All the small guests wont in fancy dress, making a very pretty sight when everyone had assembled. Dancing and games were kept going all the evening—a few older guests helping.to amuso the little ones. Among those present were Miss H. Abraham (Nun), Miss S. Abraham (Baby), Aliss Dorothy Abraham —a Black Cat a most effective costiimo carried out in black velvet —Hisses Cargill (Old English), Taverner (Gipsy), Humphreys (Witch), Armstrong (Tulip), Hewett (Corean), Wurburton (Russian l J eusant), Monro (Dutch Girl), and Gilbertson (Undine). The prize for the most original dress was won by Miss Betty Abraham, prettily dressed in , black net with big gauze wings, as a Black Butterfly. The children had a gala night last Wednesday, when the fancy dress ball got up by Mrs. W. T. Wood in aid of the Old Men's Home took place. Though' not .quite so largely attended as last year, tho ball was an unqualified success, both artistically and financially. ' Tho children went .through some intricate marches and dances "most successfully, and Riki Wood created tho sensation of the evening in a' wonderful skirt dance, for which she wore a most becoming costume of crimson silk. Miss Sybil Abraham has just returned from her visit to Wellington and Haw.ke's Bay. ' ' Miss Rotortson (Wellington) is visiting Mrs. H. AValdegrave. Miss Hull (Auckland) is the guest of her aunt, Mrs. Abraham. ■Mrs. and Miss Begg (Dunedin) are spending a few days with Mrs. M'Lennan, College Street. Miss M. Green (Dun«din) is visiting her aunt, Mrs. Alan Strang. Mr. and Mrs. P. D. Barker are staying at the Grand Hotel, and intend leaving for the south on Wednesday. I Miss B. Donald, of Fcatherston, is visiting Wellington. Miss Igglesden, art instructor at tho Nelson Girls' College, is on a visit to her sister, Mrs.iCeciT.Goutter, Kelburne. Mrs. Bidwill. of the Lower Valley, and her niece, Miss Beetham, of "Brancepoth," are visitors to Australia, and have been staying at Mount K'oscuisko, the Switzerland of Australia. Miss M. Neville, of Blenheim, is the guest of Mrs. (Justice) Cooper, the Terrace. . ' • ! Miss Adelene O'Connor is visiting her sister, Mrs. J. Hislop, in Austin Street. Mrs. Russell, of Napier, is visiting Wellington, and is staying with her sister, Mrs. Davies. • Mrs. and Miss Balfour (Waverley), Mr. and Mrs. Mills (Pelorus Sounds), and Mr. and Mrs. Thompson (New Plymouth) are visitors to Wellington, and are staying at the Occidental Hotel. . Mr. and Mrs. C. W. Halse left yesterday for a trip to Auckland and to the Bay of Islands. . ■ Mrs. Milne, of Masterton, is visiting her sister, Mrs! Frank Cameron (Hastings). ■ When, his Majesty the late King Edward YII died Mrs. Francis Stevens, of Oriental Bay. wrote a letter of sympathy to Queen Alexandra, and was most surprised and delighted when a letter of thanks was received from her on July 80.
