CRICKET COACH FOR WELLINGTON.

J. V. SATJNDERS APPOINTED. Jlr. Martin Luckio presided at a meeting, of the Wellington Cricket Association, held in the Occidental Hotel last evening, when the applications for the position of groundsman and coach were considered. There were about 40 applications in all, from all parts of Australia and New Zea--' land, ana after carefully weighing the pros and cons of each man's qualifications it was decided to appoint Mr. Joseph V. Saunders, of Melbourne, tho well-known international cricketer, to the position. The association consider themselves exceedingly fortunate in securing a man of the standing of Mr. Sounders, who has the highest reputation as a cricketer. He was a member of the Australian team which went Home- in 1902, on which occasion he secured 127 wickets- for. an average of 17 runs. ' "Wisden," of 1903, said of him:— "Saunders proved himself a remarkable lefthand bowler. He playea , . a great part in the test matches at Sheffield, Manchester, and at the Oval." . ■ • ■ - ] Mr. Peter. M'Alister, the well-known Australian player, writing to the association recommending Saunders, said that he was the best left-hand bowler, playing the game. . .
