CONTROL OF BOWLING

Sir,—l read with interest a letter in your Saiui day's Issue', entitled "Control of Bowling," by "Fairplay," who, in my opinion, should have put his name to such an . excellent 'letter. I. .am pleased to notice that men, broad-' niinded, too, are waking up and raising- their voice through the columns of that mighty lover (the press), as 1'; am sura that.tho great majority of the people in New Zealand have been lying low,; while things were prosperous. Reform is needed in New Zealand in a great many respects, and one of them' is the North Island Bowling Association. "Fairplay" states that the gov-, orning body is chiefly composed of members of the Wellington Club. "Fairplay' ' is right, but he should have added Newtown Club also. I myself, anrof the Arm opinion that'the centre' business, is a step in'-the wrong direc-. tion. The same scheme was tried with ■the cycle control when tho governing •body at Christchurch lost the confidence of-the wholf, of New Zealand, and 111 its weakness appointed centre management, the. same as the Bowling Council wants to do to-day. If centres are needed, let each district havo its own centre and management as is now in Wellington, Manawatu, and Wanganui, but let the North Island Bowling Association remain as it was of old. If the members of the Wellington Association havo not tlio courage to go on with samo, then resign, and hand over the Government to some other centre.

Ro tho association banner. Look at the disgraceful muddle which took place at last tourney in January last, in which the present governing body says that owing to tho open-door policy the banner should , not have been competed for at all, because it was contrary to tho rules, and that Wellington has no right to hold the banner now becauso the open door policy was adopted at the January' tourney. Rule 17 says that to win the'ibannor, the team must havo a majority of wins, which,, at the present, Wellington, l'almerston North, and Groy Lynn havo two wins each. The prizes Wellington have won with credit to themselves, but nottho banner. Thero are lots of tilings in Wellington that are muddled —Government, brass bauds, orchestral music, band contests, and numerous others which I cannot bring to mind. —I am, etc., VOTE OF NO-CONFIDENCE.
