SCARCITY OF FISH.
POSITION IN AUCKLAND. (By. Telegraph.-Spccial Correspondent.) Auokland, August 5. ' With regard to the statement telegraphed from "Wellington on the authority of a fish supplier there that the scarcity of fish in that market is much more marked than in any previous season, and that "conditions are just as bad in Auckland, Christelmrch, Dnnedin, and Napier," inquiries made from a local fish supplier do not bear this out as far as Auckland is concerned. Scarcity of flat fish, ho states, is ex-' pected in the winter months, and lie does not think the position in Auckind is any ivorso than it was last year. • As to hapuka bringing up to 14s. Cd. in Wellington, it is a matter of weight. An average hapuka in Auckland would bring about ].os. There are plenty of schnapper hero, and there is a trado with tho south in smoked fish, but he adds they do not seem to tako muoh schnapper in Wellington,
