sold well. Store sheep showed practically no chaugo ill prices. The fat sheep market opened well up to last week's prices, but cased oft' somewhat towardß the close, l'at hoggets wore flrin. Stoic tattle were dull of sale, but dairy cows wore in good demand, und tliere was no cuanire in fat pigs. 'I'hero was a largo entry of store sheep, which was made up principally of owes and hoggets. There was ,a steady demand at laet week's rates. Good, wether hoggets made 12s. to 135.; extra, to 14n. 3d.; medium, 11b. to. Us. 6d.; small, Bs. Id. to Us.. 6d.; good ewe hoggets, 15b. to 165.; others, 13s. Id. to 13s. 9d.; two-tooth ewes, 15s. 2d. to 15s. 5d.; six and eight-tooth, 14s. 9d.. to 16s. 4d.; sound-mouth, 12s. 6d. to 14s. 10d.; aged, 9s. 6d. to 10b. Bd.; aud culls, ss. 7d. Wethers, 12s. 6d. for lowcoiiditloned, up to 15s. W. for good. There was an entry of SJU fat hoggets, and the Quality was above the average, tlioro being several extra prime lines of tegs. There was a good demand, and prices were very lirm. Two export buycru were operating, and they took 452, the butchers purchasing 115, and 23 were passed in. Prices for ordinary to prime, made 12s. 3d. to 17s 6d., and special lots l?s. lid. to 21a. 9d. A few new season's lambs made IDs. 6d. to ,20s. 6d. The yarding, of fat sheep was much larger than of late, and consisted principally of wethers. Several lots of enow sheep and other specially prime lines were offered. Several of theEC lots brought over 305., and Mr. F. Bull's prize four-tooth Shropshiros, which won tiie championship at the Duuedin winter show in June, made a. new Australasian record for lat sheep, the top price being £3 17b. 6d., as against £3 17s. three years ago. There was some business done For export, but tho butchers were the principal buyers. The special lots sold under keen competitiou. For ordinary good to prime the previous week's prices were well main, tained till towards the close of the sale, wheii they eased a little, though the do- , continued good. The range of prices was:—Extra prime , show wethers, 2bs. to 77h.. 6d.; extra, prime, wethers, 255. to 325.; prime, 19s. 6d. to 255.; others, 15s. 6d. to 195.; extra prime ewes, to 245.; prime, 17s. 6d. to 215.; others, 12s.'4d. to 17b.; merino wethers, 13s. 6d. to 15s.

The yarding of fat cattle totalled 281, and the yarding as a. whole was one of the best ever seen in the yards, thcro being a, number of extra prime lines from local graziers , au.i from . stations. There <verc also-some Herefords from tho North island. There was an active demand, and prime beef sold-fully up to the previous wosk's rates, and in some cases over. A roan Shorthorn . bullock, bred by -Messrs. M'liardy jjros., Palmerstoa North, with which Messrs. W. Olarkson and Sons have won a' number of ilrst prizes at Ghristehurch and lJunedin . shows without a, defeat, was sold at £21 15s. to" Mr. F. Falrey, Nelson! A number of other, steers made over £15, the range for steers being; £7 10s. to £11 12s. 6d., and.up to £21 155.; : heifers, £4 is. to £10; and extra, to £11 55.; cows, £5 23. 6d. to £9 2s. bd.; and extra, to £12 155.; equal to 20s. to 28s. .for ordinary to prime, and- a few special to 30s. per iOojd. . Store cattle were few In number, and met with a dull sale, 15 to 18-months sorts making 455. to 575; three-year steers, ±'5 155.. to £5 17s. 6d.; three-year heifers, £4 Bs.; and dry cows, 30s. to £4 Vs. 6d. Dairycows brought £3 10s., to £9 2s. 6d. Dairy cows were entered in only limited numbers, and they sold well, prices ranging from £3 10s. to £9-2s. 6d.

■There wag a fair, entry of pigs, the demand for fats-was about the average, ana prices showed no change. Uhoppers sold up to £5; heavy baconers, <6s. to 505.; lighter, 375. to Ms.; canal, to Id. per lb. A :line of prime baconers, from Mr. J. Grigg (Longbeach), made 65a. to 60s. Large porkers brought 30s. to 365.; lighter, 255. to.2Es.; equal to 4Jd. to 43d. per lb: Store pigs were easier in consequence of an over iupply, large sorts making 20s. to 255.; smaller, 14k. to 18s.; and weaners, ss. to Us. .-: .. .•.;. , ■ ■

Dunedln, August 3. At Burnsido. stock market 162 fat cattle were yarded,. consisting ol good quality. Prices on the whole were as good as thoeo ruling last week. Best bullocks, £11 to £12; extra, to £16; medium, £9 10s. to £10 10s.; inferior, £8 to £9 155.; beet cows and heifers,. £10 to £12; extra,, to £13 7s. 6d:; medium/ £8 15s. to £9 10s.; inferior, £6 to-JK 15s. . .

Fat sheep: 2607 yarded, consisting chiefly of wethers, some being of very .fine quality.- Prices for well finished sheep were, on a. par with, those ruling last week, while unfinished sorts had a.rather easier tendency. Best wethers, 20s. to 225.; extra, to 2<ls. 9d.; medium, 16s. to 17s. 9A-; inferior, 14s. to 155.; best bullocks, 17s. to 195.; extra/235.;' medium, 14s. to 15s. . Lambs: There , was a very small yarding of. 316. The quality on the whole was good, and prices were very much the same as those ruling last. week. Best, 15s. 3d. to 175.; medium, 13s. 3d. to 14s. 9d.

Pigs: 150, yarded. There was a very keen, demand for. young pigs, and prices all ovor were fully up to last week's rates.
