Surprise Party at Miramar. . : ; A most delightful evening was spent at tho Club Houa-'at-'Miramar on Monday evening, when a number of ■ visitors, at the invitation of Mr. and Mrs. Bought}', formed a surprise, party and descended upon ■ Mr., and Mrs. Gilkison at the Club; Fully sixty people were present, n large number of them coming out from town, .and thoroughly prepared to enjoy themselves, as probably' there are lew places so suitable for anything of- this kind.' 'As'is-usual at those • parties,. the. girls provided'■■ the-.supper,- the table bring charmingly arranged with asparagus fern and narcissi. Music that was every: thing it, should -Be was supplied by Mr. Fleming, and the dance lasted till about one' o'clock, when a special car brought everyone back, again to'town. Mr. and Mrs. Doughty iand Mr. and Mrs.-Gilki-son received the visitors in the hall, Mrs. Doughty wearing a.pretty pale blue silk evening dress and Mrs. Gilkison a black silk dress. A Very enjoyable "at.home" in cbnncc■tion with the Women's : Social and Poli ; tical League took place in the Socialists. Hall' in Manners Street last evening. .A large- number were ■ present, including Mrs. Seddon, the patroness of the society, and Mr. Barber. An apology for his unavoidable absence was received from the Mayor, Mr. Wilford. Songs and recitations helped to'pa'ss a very 'pleasant evening, thoso contributing being Miss Wrigley, Miss Ballichan, Miss Allan, Mr. Wemyss,' and Mf. Dyson, while recitations'were given l)i Mr. Israel. The accampaiiiments wero played by .Miss Mcpre and Mrs.' Dawe.- Dancing also was one of, the amusements of the evening, and lasted till -.well on in the evening.
