A well-attended general mooting of tho Wellington Orchestral Society was held at the Dresden last evening, Dr. FylTo (president) in Hie chair. The advisability uf continuing operations was diucussed. It was pointed out that when the society resumed rDhoarsals, some four months' ago, the attendance was most discouraging, the numbers present at three rehearsals being, respectively, twentytwo, nincti>cu, and nine. It w'as therefore unanimously resolved that the, society cease active operations until such time as may be deemed convenient, and that the present officers of the society be constituted a body of trustees responsible to the original trustees of the Orchestral Society for the music, tympani, and stands loaned to the City Corporation. The meeting was unanimous in favouring the loaning of the society's properties lo thi- City Council. The proposal that a municipal orchestra bo formed was most favourably commented upon> .: . . . '■
