A QUESTION OF PRICE.
THE NAI NAI PURCHASE. Reference to tho purchase by the Government •of (he Nai Mai property was made by Mr. Forbes (Hurunui) during his remarks on the Budget yesterday in the House of Representatives. Ho said that when the Government acquired that property it paid not more than current values. No one at tho time could say that ,£l5O per acre was too high a price. Mr. Wiliord: But it was.
"About the same time," continued Mr. Forbes, "Mr. Wili'ord paid as much as .£IOOO per acre in the same district." Mr. Wiltord: Unfortunately. (Laughter.) Mr. Forbes: And Mr. Wilford is not a poet, but a shrewd business mail. Mr. Wilford: I have still got tho land. (Further merriment.) In conclusion, Mr. Forbes declared that if Mr. Wiliord were misled, fault should not be found with tho members of the Land Purchase Board, who were only human, and might havo made a mistake.
