• (From Oar Special Correspondent!.) | ■ ' ' FEILDING. The building permits in tho Borough of Feilding during the last' month show that tho new work started amounted in value to close on XSOO. At the recent Feilding stock sale a.' line of 25 2-tooth Roinney flock ewes, offered on behalf of Mr. W. G. Pearee, of Colyton, fetched the record price for the season of .£2 3s. a head. This is the second time that Mr. Pearco has topped the market for flock ewes. Three years ago ho got i:2 4s. 9d. for a line of ilock ewes. Ex-Councillor Thco. West and his family left Feilding yesterday for Auckland, where they are to take up permanent residence. The Rev. o'. J. ICimberley, secretary of the New Zealand Church Missionary Association, guve an address last evening at tho meeting of the Feilding branch of the C.E.M.S. A' woolshed on Mr. Manson's property at Stanway has been destroyed by fire. The building and its contents, comprising, a quantity of wool, oats and clialf,. and | potatoes, were totally destroyed. Mr. Campbell, tho manager, was away at the time, and the cause of the outbreak is not known. Tho Junction Creamery at Stanway will probably start working about the middle of this month. Cows all through the Feilding countryside seem to be coming in earlier this season than for years past. Feed is fairly plentiful ior this time of the year, and farmers are looking forward to on early : spring. OTAKI. The only football match played hero on Saturday was that between Ivopntaroa and Otaki Junior, the gamo resulting in a draw,-after a solid contest. Mr. Hori te Waru's houso narrowly oscaped destruction by fire yesterday morning. A kapok bed bccame ignited, and portion, of the. woodwork-- soon got ablaze, but luckily the outbreak was subdued before much'damage had been done. Had a good hold been gained by the flames the lire would probably have ended only, after a big conflagration, as; the houso is ill .close proximity to the Racing. Club's office and Central Hotel. Our local golf players have returned from Hutt, naturally elated at their success, and pleased with the generous hospitality accorded them. The club hopes shortly to send a ladies' team. to Wei-' lington. The local recreation' ground, put .in grass this "season after being'levelled, has now an abundance of weeds which heed attention. Rolling seems also needed. The upkeep-of the ground is likely to be considerable, and hookey, matches for its benefit are being spoken of. .Three football teams/ have been arranged, to journey from the southern end of this district to participate in riscvenaside tournament to bo held here shortly.
