A meeting, of those interested' in form--ing a.Hibernian Society in Petorio.was.. held in the Catholic Schoolroom on Sun- ~ day afternoon, when . Mr.. J: W. Callaghan presided over a large, attendance. ■. It was resolved to form a Petohe Society. Mr. J. Lineman was elected secretary and Dr. Koss medical superintendent. A requisition for the usual dispon-. sation from the district executive was prepared. Yesterday morning at the Petone Police Court, before Mr. J. W. M'Ewan; J.P;, a woman, charged with drunkenness, was convicted and discharged. Mr. W< R. Haselden, S.il., presided at the Magistrate's Court, Lower Eutt, yes- • •terday morning. N. Fletcher claimed from Messrs. Kathbone damages to his horse, trap, and harness, caused by a collision ' with ■ defendant's motor-car. Judgment was given for plain tiff for ,£6, 10s. and costs. One first-offending' inebri- • ate • was convicted and discharged. The' case in which P. Holton proceeded against.' • : Dairy Inspector Ward, and Inspector' Ward against Holton, was adjourned for a month. W. B. Timmings sued — Mayrick, baker,, for wages, etc. The casa' was adjourned to Wellington. • The annual meeting of the Hutfc Doubling Benevolent Society was held in the reading room at Lambton Station on Saturday night. 'Mr. ,W. E. Boyd was re-eleoted chairman, Mr. H. E. Cock was" . elected' secretary, and Mr. J. Lee wae elected treasurer. Altogether during tha' year the sum of .£lO5. was paid out in benefit payments, though 1 only 3d. per member per week was levied. It was de- . 'cided to place on record the society's indebtedness to the Mayor and ' councillors of Petone for the free use. of the.. recreation grounds, on which the society held its annual sports on January 15 last. . ■ '
