It was resolved upon an autumn campaign to elicit public support. The recent actions not only seek to restrain the societies from making compulsory levies, but voluntary ones also, and forbids the use of the machinery of the unions for political purposes. Wolfo has made another unsuccessful attempt to swim the Channel. He covered twelve miles, but was compelled to abandon the- swim on account of a rising wind and swell. In July, 1908, Wolfo swam 35 miles in 11 hours in an unsuccessful attempt to cross the Channel, and in August, 1907, ho covered 38 miles in 15 hours 16mm.
