THE TRAMWAYS BILL.
A STRONG PROTEST,
A meeting ■ of tho Legislative Committee of the Municipal Association was held yesterday afternoon' to consider the Tramways -Bill, introduced by the Government. There were present:—The Jlayor. of Wellington (Mr. T. -SIV Wilford, M.P., president of the association), Jlayor of Lower Uutt (Mr. E.' P. Bunny), Mayor of Karori (Mr. C. I. Dasent), Mayor of Masterton (Mr. Jas.'Coradine), Councillor Hindmorsh (Wellington), .Mr. A. J. .M'Curdy (Upper Hutt Town Board), JlrT Bould (Johusonvillc), the Hon. A. 14. Guinness,' M.P., and Mr..T. F. Martin, secretary' and solicitor to the association. ,Tele-' ffi ams wero read from ■ Auckland, ;Dunedin, and other centres in opposition to the Bill. The following resolutions were passed:— , , "That the Legislative Committee of the Municipal Association strongly, protests against, the passing' of the, Bill to amend the Tramways Act, 1908J on the', ground of its being an , undue and unnecessary interference with the rights find privileges of local bodies having, tramway undertakings, and suggests .that all such local ' bodies should similarly Tirotest, anil that this resolution be brouarht. under the notice of tho Government." ■ .' Tramway Board to-day discussed at length the' New Tramways Bill, unci decided to enter a vigorous protest against the passing of the measure.
