'Wilton, the club captain, Mr. T. Coventry was told off. to act as captain. G. Ranger and H. Rowntr.ee took out thq bags, but .owing* to; the hirrh southerly breeze the paper-was'of little use, so ; the pack ran"to' the direction of tho captain, who picked out a good, although course. •'When tho rooms wore,left) a straisht line was made for Lyell' over -Ihe • hills and sand dunes, and thence for the road leading 'around-''the Queen's Drive. ' When tho end of the beach was reached the route doubled back'along the sea front until the •fishermen's huts near the. Heads were reached. .A' northerly direction was then taken back over the ridges until the golf links were reached. From his-point the road was followed' until about 3QO yards from the-starting point, where the pack assembled for a sprint liohie.; T. Barrios was first; a yard in front of H. C'oad, a now member, while J. Don rail in third. Next Saturday: the club will hold a five-Mile scratch' race at' Taita. Mr. Walsh has kindly put'his grounds at their disposal. -

Thq. Wellington Harriers held their third annual steeplechase' over the Trentham course, on Saturday afternoon, tho distar.c:! being 2J- miles. At the back of'tlio courso ho had moved up into second place. •MacDowall, by the way, with a lUOsec. start, had by this time maintained a lead of over 100 yds., and the issuo of the race was never in doubt from the beginning of tho second lap. Ovor the last jump tho order was: MacDowall, Bennett,-?and tho rest of tho Held saino distance away. This order was maintained to tho finish. The followiag weru the'officials for tho race:—Judges, Messrs. W.■ H. Bennett .and. F. Uoss; starter and timekeeper, Mr. J. H. Pollock; course steward, Mr. H. J. Pollock; handicappers, Messrs. W. H. Pollock and W. Watt. After tho raco a presentation of a handsome set of carvers was made to Mr. H. A. Lamb, whose niarriago takes place.on Wednesday. Tho thanks of tho club are duo to the Wellington Racing Club for the uso of tho course, and to Mr. A. E. Whyto, who kindly donated the trophies for the raco. Tho run next Saturday starts from Thomdon Baths.

GOLF,

A match between teams chosen from the Hutt and Otaki Golf Clubs was played at the Hutt on Saturday afternoon, under perfect weather , conditions. The links wore in splendid order, and Otaki eventually won by .6 games, to 3. Ponehi, of the Otaki team, drove beautifully, ono of bis drives measuring between 250 and 2GO yards. The final for the; ladies' championship of the Wellington Golf Club were plarx on Friday morning. After a very close game, Miss Collins beat Miss.Hannay 1 up at the twentieth hole. In the junior championship, Mrs. Pcarcc beat Miss Dalziel 7 up and 5 to play.
