LIGHTLY CLAD.
A QUEER. CHASE. Clad only, in a pair of socks,' a re-cently-discharged inmate of the Mental Hospital led the local police a lively dance at an early hour yesterday morning. Shortly, after 6 a.m. a man was observed to streak from the main entrance of one of the city hotels and disappear in the direction of the' Ferry Uharf, with a scandalised constable in hot pursuit. 'The "chase" was apparently in excellent form, and soon outdistanced the perspiring policeman, the latter whistled up reinforcements, and, boarding an express,- proceeded at a'gallop to overtake his quarry, who had - meanwhile made a long spurt in the direction of Clyde Quay. Finally the man ■ was outflanked and headed back, and had perforce\to surrender to an overwhelming force. He .was hoisted aboard the vehicle and taken to safe custody. K
