THE WELLINGTON "BUTTER WAR."
; PRODUCE "GIVEN AWAY." In the course of an address to a I gathering of Waikaio dairymen, Mr.--Wesley Spragg (the'managing"director of _ the New Zealand Dairy Association) said that they were aware'from press reports, of the "foolish butter war" in Wellington, which had kept the winter price of butter down below actual cost of production. That, kind Of thing was going on constantly in a modified degree, and the, influence of competition between co-operations, had been in the .same, direction in Auckland. The result was that farmers, had this season given away something for which nobody thanked them. The farmer had as clear, a claim as .any ■ member of the ■ community to be paid, a.fair price for his labour, and judged by the markets of the world, : which should properly .regulate, local prices,, his labour was ! ¥orth^hi'ore' 1 -.'thah-';'the'-products of it had been realising in the Wellington or tho Auckland markets.'
