IFrom Our Special Correspondents ■'•■'•' INTEREST "IN SKATING. .• The increasing popularity of'the Lower Hutt Skating Eiuk has induced the management to open. every afternoon and evening, with the exception of Tuesday cveniugs. Every night crowds of enthusiastic skaters are in evidence, to the accompaniment of a brass band. The rink is conducted on first-class , lines, there being times set . apart, for learners, couples, and ladies and gentlemen separately. To meet, the requirements of private parties the rink is available on Thursdaysrand Fridays. , After the success of the two. preceding carnivals, the managemeut announew . that a "grand carnival" will be held on Wednesday,. August 10, when the great attraction will be "Professor Athos, . the King of Skaters." who will give exhibitions of the "Ice Waltz," "Cobbler's Dance," "TwoStep," "Threading the Forest Haze," "human swing," "toe spins," and other feats. His star turn will be a lean over 16 chairs, turning a somersault whilst in mid-air. Table-leaping will also be included in tho performance.
HUTT BOWLING CLUB. Tho seventh annual meeting of the Hutt TSuwling and Tennis Club was held in the Lower Hutt Town Hull last evening, Mr. W. Hendry, last year's president, occupying the chair, There was a large attendance. The annual report and balance-sheet, particulars 'of which were published in last Thursday's issue, wero adopted. The following officers were elected for the ensuing year:—Patron, Mr. J. Duthie; president, ilr. G. Allport; vicepresidents, Messrs. C. Trevethick, C. Hollard, and W. Jolliffe; hon. secretary, E. P. Riskworth; treasurer, C. A. Seymour; auditor, A. T. Kempthorne; delegates to the Wellington Bowling Centre, Messrs. C. Trovethictfl and E. P. Kishworth; delegate to Northern Bowling Association, W. Hendry; General Committee, Messrs. Macaskili, Hendry, Orton Stevens, Barlow, Gcddie, Davidson, Gardiner, Jones, and Green. -Trophies won during la.it season were presented iis follow:— Senior championship, 1909, Mr. Cudby;. championship singles, U. M'Gurk; championship pairs, Messrs. A. Macaskill, and C. A. Seymour. •'■.■■'■ BAND SOCIAL. A very successful "social" was held in the Vicloriii Street Hall, Petone, last evening, under the auspices of the Petono Citizens' Band, in recognition of the assistance given by friends in . connection with the recent bazaar of the Hutt and Petono hands. ■ PALACE THEATRE, PETONE. The now Palace Theatre, at Petone, will be opened next Saturday by the Mayor (Mr. J. W. M'Ewan) for skating. Skaters are looking . funvwd eagerly to a spin on the excellent floor. The stage will be at the disposal of non-skaters. A brass band will be in attendance. From next Saturday onward the will be open every afternoon and evening. . NO-LICENSE LEAGUE. Advantage will be taken by the Hutt No-License League to hold their monthly meeting, whilst Dr. Henry is in Petone. The meeting is set down for Monday night next at the Petono Drill Hall, when Dr. Henry will give an address on "Drink."
