SHEARING MATTERS.

(By Telegraph.—Press Association.) Christchurch, July 28. When the dispute between the Canterbury Shearers' Union and the Canterbury Sheepowners'' Union with reference to shed hands, in South Canterbury came before the Conciliation Council to-day, the employers stated that they declined to discuss prices, conditions, or anything else, and said the matter would havo to go straight to the Arbitration Court. (By Telegraph-Special Correspondent.) Masterton, July 28. At a meeting of the Masterton branch of the Shearers' Union last evening it was decided to take a ballot of tho shed hands of the branch on the qnestiou of whether it is desirable to have a weekly wage or a day wage for the coming season. The object is to strengthen the hands, of the assessors at the sitting of the Conciliation . Council in Palmerston North.'
