RETRENCHMENT.
CITY EESEKVES AND PAKKS. Following upon the idea of curtailing the expenditure on the city reserves and parks, the City Council has decided that, having regard to the money available for expenditure this year ou the reserves aid parks of the city, temporary employees be retrenched, and their services dispensed with four weeks from date, and that one of the employees at.fhe Zoo be likewise informed. Further, to keep the remaining members of the staff occupied on maintenance work, which will /absorb the principal amount .of funds allocated, special work authorised to the estimated amount of ,£4ss—latrines and water pipes at the Botanical Gardens, painting the superintendent's residence and tool-house, erection of horse, and forage stables in Duppa Street, and fencing at Anderson Park— should be postponed till next year.
