(From Our Special Correspondents.) ■ «. FEILDING. At Mr. C. G. C. Dormer's sale of dairy stock yesterday, the grade Jersey cow Whitesocks was purchased on behalf of Mr. John Cobbo for JE2S. This was the highest price paid for a cow at the sale, Mr. Seymour, of Wnnganui, giving the same figure for another Jersey cow. Mr. Toms, of the Agricultural Department, gave a demonstration of emulsion spraying in Mr. Cobbe's orchard yesterday under the auspices of the Feilding Fruitgrowers' Society before thirty ladies and gentlemen, and as many senior scholars from the High School. Mr. Toms, in addressing those present, said that lie had had two surprises here. Ho had never previously experienced the courtesy of being introduced to his audience. "I have always," he said, "had to start work without any formality," and ho had never before had ladies present at his demonstrations. At the conclusion a vote of thanks was accorded Mr. Toms, and a resolution was adopted to the effect that the Department bo recommended to allow the instructor to reside in the Feilding district. OTAKI. Mr. Cottle, of Lower Hutt, has bought Mr. J. J. Curtis's farm at Manakau, and takes possession in about a month's time. Yesterday afternoon a clearing sale of stock, etc., took place, when everything realised good prices. Members of the Roman Catholic congregation of Otaki are arranging to hold a bazaar in October next. The Methodists also intend to hold a similar function at an early date. Testerday's hookey matches were not brilliant displays, but the Otaki-Mana-kau match caused most interest, the latter winning by one goal—scored by Atkins—to nil. Rahui (Otaki) had a runaway victory over Levin Rovers, winning by seven goals to one. Kehu scored six, and Griffith and Kilminster shared the other between them. Thome scored for Levin. An elderly man named Orest Sgrilli (lied at the Otaki Hospital on Monday from heart trouble. He came from Eona Bay and was only recently admitted. While Mr. R. Kingi was driving from Levjn in his motor-car he collided with a trap driven by Mr. Bishop, accompanied by Mrs. Bishop and family.. The vehicle was injured, but the occupants escaped injury. Another series of hunts are to be held in this district next week. GREYTOWN The ordinary meeting of the Greytown Oddfellows Mas held on Wednesday evening last. Several brothers of the Carterton Lodge paid a visit, and took the Purple Degree. After business had. been transacted a euchre tournament was indulged in, and won by the local players. After supper, cheers were exchanged, and the visitors left for Carterton. WOODVILLE. Mr. Nqrttage,' the Government expert gave a display of pruning and spraying at the Government Stock Inspector's orchard on Wednesday last. Tho demonstration was well attended. The local football players who were selected to represent the sub-union against the Hawke's Bay Union, wero unable to mako tho journey, and were replaced by Dannevirke players. The ■ match was. played at Napier. EKETAHUNA.

Cold weather has been' experienced throughout the Bush districts during the last few days. The low-lying hills in the vicinity of- Eketahuna were covered with suo\r od Thursday morning. The severe -weather is having a bad effect on stock.
