The Southland Acclimatisation Society is offering a royalty of threepence each for hawks' heads. This decision is the outcome of a suggestion from, Mr. liurrell, jun., Manapouri; who reported that they were playing havoc on the, young of native. and imported game. The payment for destroying hawks applies in several other parts o{ the Dominion. The society pays 2s. each for shags' heads. Shags are particularly numerous just now, and large flocks may be 'seen almost daily flying inland at a great height. With regard to hares, hawks and weasels were responsible for death of quite a number of leverets.—Southland exchange.
What has become of the proposal to erect an agricultural hall in New Plymouth' (asks the "Taranaki News"). At the time of the winter show it was very generally recognised that such a building is required if we' are to have a proper winter show. It is suggested that the building should bo placed on the . Agricultural Society's freehold in St. Germain's Square, which is situated in the midst of the most densely populated portion of the borough, whilst a leading commercial man expresses the opinion that there should be no difficulty in raising sufficient cash on debenlures to secure the success of the undertaking. Now is the time to move in the matter, whilst the discomforts of our initial winter show are fresh in the memory.
