SHEARING DISPUTE.
PROGRESS OP, PROCEEDINGS. '
(By Telegraph.—Press < AcsocUtlon.)
Christchurch, July 27. In tho Arbitration Court.this morning Mr. Pryor said the parties had agreed to request tho Cuurt tu refer the Canterbury shearers' dispute to tho Conciliation Commissioners, upon whose recommendations the Court would then bo asked to frame an award.
Jlr. Justice Sim objected that the Com-t had no power-to refer tho dispute. What he could do was to adjourn tho hearing and enable tho parties to take any steps they desired, and when • the parties agreed they could come to tho Court foi an award.
This courso was followed, the case being adjourned, to be heard at Wellington in September, when the Wellington dispute will he also.taken. . ' ....
Mr. Pryor explained that tho arrangements in regard to a Dominion award were not quite complote, one of the North Island unions or' sheepfarmers having misunderstood his telegram. He was sure the difficulty would 1)4 overcome, ..however. - '
' Later. It is.not known when the three Conciliation Commissioners (Messrs. J. R. 'l'riggs, Haric Gilei, nnd I'. Ilally) will meet to consider the shearers' dispute, but it will probably bo about the end of August.. . Mr. Triggs. considers it most probable that the Commissioners will meet first in Christchnrch should the Cauterbnry dispute 1* dealt with first, but'should the question of a Dominion agreement be referred to them, it was difficult to say just now where the sitting would bo opened.
