THE ACCESSION OATH.

MINOR AMENDMENTS PROPOSED. By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright. (Rec. July 27, 10.15 p.m.) London, July 27. Nonconformist members of the House of Commons favour an amendment at the Committee stage omitting from the Accession tieclavation "the mention of the Church, and substituting tho words: "I. am a faithful Protestant, and will, according to j.ho true intent, etc."

Tho Scottish Liberals have resolved to support tho second reading of the Bill, but a strong opinion has been generally expressed in tavour of omitting the words, "as by law established in England."

In the House of Commons on June 28 Mr. Asquith introduced the new Accession Declaration Bill. The new Accession Oath reads as follows:—

"1 solemnly and sincerely, in the presence of' God, profess, testify, and declare that 1 am a faithful member of the Protestant Reformed Church, as by law established, in England, and will, according to the true intent of the enactments securing the Protestant succession, uphold and maintain the said enactments to the best of my power, according to law."

A NEW ZEALAND QUESTION. During the sitting of the House, y&r terday, Mr. A. M. Jlyers, M.P. for Auck ; land East, gave -notice of his intention to ask the Prime Minister: "Whether tho Government ...will bring beforo this House a motion that a respectful address be presented to his Excellency the Governor, requesting him to ask his Majesty's Secretary of State, for the Colonies to convey to his Majesty the King-the desire of this House that, an alteration' should bo mad© in the Accession Declaration, so.as to expunge therefrom the words reflecting on the Roman Catholic religion, which are offensive to the feelings of millions of his Majesty's subjects."
