SHEARERS' DISPUTE.
EESULT OF THE CONFERENCE. (By Tclcgrapli.-Press Association.)
* Christchurch, July 26. When the Arbitration Court met this morning Mr. Prvor. lor the employers, stated that a contcrence had been hold in regard to the shearers' dispute, and it had been virtually agreed to ask th« permission of tUo Court to reter the matter to the three Conciliation Commissioners, who would hear evidence and make recommendations to be embodied in an award binding on both parties throughout the Dominion. There wero several minor points in dispute, but ho had no hesitation in saying that these would be overcome. Ho asked lor an adjournment till next day.
In answer to the Judge, Sir. Pryor said he was very hopeful'that the rates of pay would be referred to the commissioners, and tin.adjournment was needed to enable them to complete ncgotiniionit. An adjournment was granted till next day. The parties will confer again this afternoon.
Later. The conference between tie representatives of the Shipowners' Union and the Shearers' Uuion was concluded at i.30 p.m. to-day. Mr. Tryor stated afterirarils that some difficulty was experienced in arranging that the matters in dispute should- go before tho three Conciliation Commissioners in order that the basis of a Dominion award could be arrived at. In the meantime it had been decided to refer tho Canterbury dispulo to three Conciliation Commissioners,* and further efforts would be made to bring about the reference of the. dispute to the commissioners for the purpose arriving at a Dominion award.
