SOCIAL AND PERSONAL

.Four Wellington Ladies. , Tlio following letter, signed by Lady Stoutj Mrs. Blair, Mrs. Ostler, and Jlrs. liaukm Brown, appeared ill tlio "British Australasian" of Juno 10: — AVill you kindly allow us to intimate that at, a meeting attended by over 100 New Zealand women, it was decided that all who believed that the suffrage had benefited New Zealand should join in the women's procession on Saturday next? It was agreed that their attendance would mean that they were in sympathy with the movement in Britain, and that abseneo would imply that, although the suffrage was good for New Zealand and Australian women, British women were unworthy of the privilege. We do not think there are many New Zealand or Australian women who will not respond to the appeal of their sisters in the Motherland.' The procession is absolutely constitutional and nonparty, and will be representative of all ,tho. women's and. men's unions, constitutional and so-called militant (numbering 16 societies), who are in. favour of woman's suffrage. We have already secured a New Zealand flag and banner, and a fern will be our badge. An Australian banner, is being prepared for. the Australian contingent, who will wear a sprig of artificial wattle as their emblem. The procession is to form up oil tho. Embankment punctually at 5!30. Anyone who cannot walk all the way to the Albert Hall may "drop, out at- any point, or may drive. We hopo all New Zealand and. Australian women will ill this way protest against the insults being thrown at their intelligence and patriotism by the anti-suffragette societies. In the colonies such protests have not been neces-' sary; as men were enlightened and had overcome . primitive ideas of sex subjection.; Let us loyally help our sisters!

Temporary Waitresses. Seven or eight Dunedin girls have found a pleasant way of earning a little pocket-money that might well he followed by Wellington girls. They are all girls who.know how "meals should be daintily served, .and they act on occasions as, emergency waitresses. When a hostess requires the services of two or three waitresses, she notifies a Jady who has a list of several girls who are qualified and willing to serve, and sho has the satisfaction of knowing that it will be'done as well as if by . professidnals.' A lady who has had, experience of their work recommends Wellington girls;to adopt the idea. ' • Miss E. M.'Dougall returned to Pinrioa .on Saturday,. after having spent several • weeks in Wellington, where sho was the.guest ! of Mrs. Didsbury. Mrs. Milne left' Wellington for Masterton on Saturday afternoon. Mrs. T. G. Macarthy gave a, party at the rink last night, between ten o'clock and midnight. , , . The silver .wedding of Mr. and'MrV Hugh Morison was celebrated at Morison's Bush'last week, writes our Greytown correspondent, when there were' a very large number of guests present'.. Mrs. ,J. A. Hanan, of. Invercargill, has come to Wellington for the. session.
