A meeting of the Carterton Football Club was held on Saturday evening, when the medals presented by Mr. W. M. Halley for the best back and forward respectively were allotted to A. C. Groubo and A. Desmond. Mr. Stringer's medal for tho most improved forward fell to A. P. Bond, and a medal from an anonymous donor for tho most improved player was awarded to G. Masson. An application for a grant of £5 from tho Benevolent Fund of tho local United Friendly Societies' Council has been received from one of tho lodges for a brother, in distress. A meeting to deal with the matter is to be held on Friday evening. . ' Large congregations continue to attend the United Church Mission, which is being held here, and which, closes on Wednesday evening.' A meeting foremen only was held on Sunday, afternoon, there being a good attendance. ■ A number of now books have lately been added to the. shelves of tho Carterton Public Library. The annual "social" and danco, organised by members of tlio local Roman Catholic congregation, is to bo hold about the end of--August.
