A fierce light between negroes and a deputy-sheriff named Cauley is reported from EHiott, in the State of> Mississippi. Cauley visited a farm for the purpose of arresting a negro, when ho was assailed by seven blacks armed with pitchforks. The deputy-sheriff drew his revolvers, and shot all the attackers, wounding five fatally and two seriously. burned at the stake. (Rec. July 24, 5.5 p.m.) New York July 23. A negro, who was surprised on entering a white woman's room at Belton, in Texas, shot the arresting constable dead. The mob burned the negro at the stake.
