not completed, while 9409 policies were issued, iosurinß £5,1)76,984, the new premium income being £222,559. Both in the number and amount of new policies, the figures were once more in excess of any previous year. In addition to the above, the society received the sum of £24,884 Is. 3d. as premiums for leasehold and capital redemption insurances completed during the- year. The income for the year was £1,697,114 4s. 3d., and the outgoing (including a. provision for every outstanding claim), £909,199 16s. Id. The net premium income of £1,228.C00 yielded a trading surplus of £!50,CC0. Tha employers' liability section showed a profit of £6uCO from premiums of £29,000, the line result being partly due to great economy of management and partly to a moderate claim rate, a considerable portion of the business being, it is understood, of tho "domestic servant' ~1-ss, in which premiums do contain a> margin for the shareholders. Personal accident insurance has also done particularly well, more than 35 'per cent, of the net premiums being available for prolit and loss. CUSTOMS REVENUE.
