"THE GIRL FROM RECTOR'S." "The Girl from Rector's," to in staged at tbo Opera House on Monday, August 1 by Hugh J-. Ward aud his company of comedians, is a farcical comedy adapted from tlie French, by Paul M. Potter, author of "Trilby." In such a riotous piece of extravagance- as "The Girl from Rector's," the ouly necessity is to be funny, and Mr. Hugh J. Ward, in his delineation of Professor Mabooli, leads off in this respect. Mr. Ward is a past master in the art of make-up, eccentric humour, dry work, exaggerated pose, and lugubrious speech—these all contributing to pronounced and ' irresistible comedy. Aliss Grace Palotta has all the energy, and attainments .of lively farce, and. so has Miss Celia Ghiloni, and. together, thoy contribute unrestrainedly to the actions _ and movements of the complicated situations. . The breeziness and blandness of Mr. Reg. Wykeham help to carry his Colonel Sandy through the various _ entanglements with perfect sangfroid. Mr. Aubrey Mallileau makes his first appearance hero with the company in tho , character of Richard) O'Shaugnessy, around which .most of the story centres. Miss Maud Chetwynd appears as the maid Angelica,! Mr. Robert Greig as the Judge, Mr..H. H. Wallace as Deacon Wrigglesford, iind a long cast includes Miss Ruby, Baxter, Florence ■ Redfern, ■-Messrs. lZ Hardinge, H. L. Gilbert, and Jame? Hastie. The box plans for sis performances will be opened at the Dresden on Wednesday morning. THEATRE ROYAL. The Fuller proprietary's vaudeville entertainments at the Theatre Royal continue to attract good audiences nightly. ' Last evening the Roger? 'Quartette of juveniie acrobats wert given a splendid ovation for theii clever turn. Keilderson is as entertaining and original as ever in his quick change impersonations and various imi< ■tations. .'The Coleman Sisters sang and danced in a manner that' delighted tiu audience, and Rupert Christie, the boj soprano, was recalled for Ms song 01. "Scouts of the Empire." The pro< gramme right through provides'a goo<J evening's entertainment. ;
KING'S THEATRE. The fine. assortment of kmematis graphy showing at the King's Theatre daring the current week is proving a capital "ch-aw." Despite the inclement weather last craning a very large number of .patrons were present, and found the programme just to their liking. It is a strong bill, eminently so in its star films. Pictures suited to all tastes are shown, the scenic' films being one of the bright features. The usual matinee is announced for tui3 after-* noon. ■ ■ .
HIS MAJESTTS THEATRE. The unpropriious weather prevailing last evening did not prevent the usual large aid appreciative audience from attending the picture entertainment at His Majesty's Theatre. This week's programme of films is an admirable and from a scenic point of view one off the best given for a long time. The humorous items were all. provocative , of much laughter. The usual matineewill be given ■'this afternoon, in addition to the ordinary evening performance.

The Star Pictures still hold' sway at St. Thomas's Hall, Newtown, and those paying this favourite honse of amusement a visit are well cateredi for with a a programme, j whfch.. covers a large range of; subjects. The management announce that there will be no.pictures shown on Monday, evening. ■;
"THE KELLY GANG." After an exceptionally successful tout of the chief centres of the Dominion, Mr Charles MacMahon and the members of his living', picture organisation return to Wellington today, and commence a short season' at the Opera House on Monday evening nest wittr the new and stirring living-pictme drama "The Kelly Gang." The picture, which is said'to be a graphic and ■faithful reproduction of tho exploits,of these desperate Australian desperadoes, was taken at the historic places now known to fame-as "the Kelly Country." The film, which .occupies the major portion of: the second half .of tie programme, will be graphically nat* rated by the well-known actor, Mr. Alfred Boothmaii. In addition, to "The Kelly Gang," ■an altogether new and delightful series.of the latest kinematcgraph surprises will be introduced to Wellington audiences for the first time. The recent highly successful : revivals in New York and London of Mr- T.W. Robertson's celebrated comedy, "Caste," should stimulate interest in the' production nest month of piece at the Opera House for three nights, starting Monday, August 10, when the chief character of "Eccles" ■will be played by Mr. W. P. Bastin. Hiss Hardinge-Maltby, whose amateur performances of "Sweet Lavender," "Kitty Glive," "Niobe" have been- so,. successful in the past, is organising the entertainment, which is under the patronage of his Excellency Lord Islington, Sir Joseph and Lady Ward, the Hon. Dr. Findlay, his Worship the Mayor, etc. "Caste" will be preceded by a one-act duologue, entitled "Duri iik the Dance," in which Mr. F. M. B. Fisher, M.P., will appear as Dick Holland, and Miss. Hardinge-Maltby as Florence Elderton. • ■ CAKRENO'S CONCERTS. A Press Association message from Palmerston states that Madame Carreno's concert yesterday evening aroused great enthusiasm. She has decided' to give a farewell concert at tho Wellington Town on August 5. SKATING RINK. . The- cold weather prevailing at present is proving eminently suitable for the popular pastime of roller-skating, and the attendances at the Olympia Rink are large. The sessions are:—2.3o p m., 6 p.m. (for lieginners), and 7.30 p.m. The Olympic Band discourses popular music at the afternoon and evening sessions. ;.
