INDUSTRIAL ACTIVITY. The complaiut in New Zealand to-day is that there is a want of enterprise, and the capital that the New Zoalaud producers have accumulated is lying idle in the banks, or, at best, is producing a very low rate of interest on fixed deposit, instead of being invested in industrial and other enterprises for the further development of the country. In Australia quite a different state of affairs prevails. Quite a number of big enterprises are being launched with tho objcct of operating in the Commonwealth in 1 different spheres. Among the more important are several oil companies, a company to breed and export horses, a company to freeze and export meat, all to operate in Queensland and New South Wales, and a compauy to exploit mineral fibre in South Australia. In addition, there are' several companies operating, partly with Australian and partly with British capital, which contemplate the the exploitation of Papua. Then there is the Bovril Estates Company, which has acquired an immense tract in tho centro of Australia, where cattle aro to be raised. The very latest is a proposal to establian a new sugar, refinery in Queensland, to work' in conjunction with a combination of existing mills. CUSTOMS RETUENS.
