The Royal Society of Literature has appointed a permanent committee to foster the purity of English literature. Ihe chairman is Viscount Morley Fecrotary of State for India, and the 'secretary Mr. Percy W. -Ames, LL.D., F.S.A. Included in the committee are Messrs. Alfred Austin (Poet Laureate), Thomas Hardy (novelist), Austin Dobson (author), R. B. JJaldaue _ (Secretary of State for War and writer of some repute), Andrew Lang (author), A. W. Pinero (dram'atist), W. B. Yeats (author,) Sir George Trevelyan (ex-Cabinet Minister and writer) and Mr. Edmund Goose, LL.D. (Librarian to the House of Lords and writer of terse and prose).
