JOTTINGS FROM WANGANUI.
(By Tolegroph-Spccia.l Correspondent.) Wariganui, July 20. Tho Hospital Board's architcct is at present engaged on plans for; the addition of an-eightecn-bed ward to the local Hospital. The institution has hitherto been without X rays apparatus, though the monoy for tho same has been available for some time, and one is to be procured at once. ' «. Very heavy rain fell all to-dnv, many' of tho streets being flooded. Plans for the proposed neiv traffic bridge over the river have been received from the Public Works . Department, which provided for the alternative of a super-structure wooden bridge to cost jC2l>,f)Do or a steel bridge lo cost' .£25,000. Tho Department recommends .the latter, but advises compounding of .£SOOO, which in thirty years should earn enough; to erect ;a new steel bridge. . The whole matter will bo considered at a joint meeting of the Wangiunii and AVanganui East Borough Councils on Monday. At tho Borough. Council meeting liist evening, the Mayor alluded, to tho loss of representation ,to 'Wariganui as proposed by the new Harbour Boards Bill, and moved the following motion, which ivas carried u ominously:—'"That in the opinion of this council, 'the. boroughs of AVang-inui and AVaEganui East,-and the town districts of Gonvillo and Castlecjiff aro entitled to more representation on tho Wanganui Harbour Board than is proposed under tho new Bill, and that a copy of. this resolution be forwarded to the member for the district and the Minister for Marine."
