At the wool sales thero was competition. . Greasy merinos wcro firm. Bcourcds and faulties were in buyers' favour.

The sales will closo on July 2C. The wool sales included:—"W-aiau" olip, top price, lid.; average, 9id.; "Whare," top price, 10id.; average, 9Jd.; "Tawapata," top price, 10id.; average, 9id. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company have received the following cablegram from their London house, under date July 19:—'The sales progress firmly. As compared with last sales' closing rates, prices are lower about par to 5 per cent, for crossbred, lambs, scoured merino super, coarse greasy crossbred, greasy merino lambs, medium greasy crossbred, and fine crossbred slipe; and about 5 per cent, to 7J per cont.* lower for crossbred scoured, scoured merino medium, coarse crossbred slipe, scoured merino (inferior), and medium croesbrcd slipe.". GRAIN MAKKET. (By Telegrapn.—Press Association.) Dunedln, July 20. Oats: Very little business is being done in oats. There are very few lines of any size offering, and there is a fair margin between buyers' and sellers' ideas of value. Good Garton3 and Sparrowbills aro inquired for for feed purposes. Prime milling, Is. 10Jd. to Is. lid.; good to best feed, Is. 9}d. to Is. IOJd.; interior to medium, Is. Bd. to Is. 9d.

Wheat: There has been fair inquiry during the last few days, but thcro is very little change to report. The chief demand is for prime velvet, tuscan, and red wheat* are being neglected. Fair businr™ is being done at quotations, though vendors arc inclined to hold velvet. Prime mining velvet, 3s. lOd. to 3s. lid.; tuscan and red wheat, 3s. sd. to 3s. 6d.; good whole fowl'wheat, 3s. Id. to 3s. 3d.
