In presenting the report of the Library? Committee, Mr. Cbnrles Wilson; chairman of the committer, referred to a paragraph therein which' staled that his committee had received letters from Professors Laby and Kirlc with reference to a large expendi-. ture- on periodicals, amounting to from. ,£7OO to .£ISOO. Having no funds, the committee had no * recommendation to make. Then, there was a complaint fromthe professors as to the irregular supply of periodicals. "With regard to that, an explanation had been given of the position, and the registrar was conferring with thn 'professors further on the mat- . ter. Thirdly, the committee had resolved to ask the registrar to apply Jo the professors to send in their lists of books for the current year with the least possible delav, such lists to be sent m, m future, not later than the second week in .April. , . , ii. • Referring to the complaints by the proMr. Wilson said he considered that Professor Kirk's letter was a distinct reflection upon himself, and he felt very much inclined to resign the chairmanship • of the committee. He didntsee why he. "should be the target of all this carelessness or malice, or both. The professors had been seriously lemiss in the matter of sending in their lists, were often so long delayed that the books did not arrive till the middle of the next university year. Again, he was to x consider requests for orders involving the expenditure of amounts like .£750 and .£9lO— utterly ridiculous. lie was sick of it The Professorial Board m this ter had shown an absolute lack of business capacity./ For three years this had been going on, and the _ professors had , grumbled on every - crastinated with their lists till after the holidays, and so the thing went on.
