OTAKI CONVENT ROBBERY.
PRISONER CONFESSES. August Rewi "Wallaoe, who A\*as recently arrested on a charge of burglariously entering St. Joseph's Convent, Otaki, was brought before Messrs. Rollo and Hurley, J.P.'s, .yesterday (says our Otaki correspondent). Evidence was given that 'the cash-box, containing ,£6O, and stolen from an upstairs bedroom, belonged to Sister Paul, and was found broken open by Sister Baptist. Evidence was given by Constable Satherley, who arrested accused, and Andrews, who drew up a statement, which was signed by accused. The statement contained the following:— "On Sunday, July 10, I left the Otaki pah with the intention of going to church, but, being late, did not go. Seeing the door' of the Convent open, 1 dc-. cided to enter. I viewed several rooms and saw the cash-box, which, when I picked it up and shook it, I found contained money.. I- took it away, secured ail axe, broke tho box open, and took aivay the notes, gold, and silver. I did not con.it the money, but I bought a graphophone for ,£6 10s. and extras, sides spending a deal in drink. "I plead guilty to the charge, and the statement as signed by me is' correct." Accused was committed to the Supreme Court for sentence, bail being refused.
