GERMAN WAR PARTY.
FORCING THE NATION'S HAND. By Telegraph—Press Association— Copyright. - Berlin, July 18. With regard to Mr. Asquith's recent speech in the House of Commons concerning naval matters, many German newspapers resent the attempt to saddle the public with the responsibility of rejecting British overtures for peace. They allege that the German naval programme has been forced on the country by the War Party's ambition to secure supremacy on land and sea. Germany, they add, would resi'st dictation regarding her armaments, but it is very different when the greatest sea Power extends her hand with a view to the limitation of armaments. Reviewing Mr. Asquith's speech, the "North German Gazette" ignores his references to the British advances. .
