(Before Mr. W. G. Riddell, S.M.j UNSEEMLY CONDUCT. MISSILE THROWN IN A BAR, ! As a result of disorderly conduct whilst 11' a state of intoxication in the Royal Hotel on Saturday, Patrick Dillon, a young_ man, .appeared on charges of—(1) insobriety, (2)' assaulting a . barmaid ".amed Nellie Walsh, and (3) breaking six bottles of whisky and two panes of glass, valued at ,£1 15s. Evidence for the prosecution was to til© oilect that accused entered * the bar of the hotel whilst under the influence ?[ liquor, _ and demanded a drink from tho barmaid. On b&ing~ refused lie grasped a soda water bottle, and aimed it at tho barmaid s head. The missile missed the intended mark, but' struck a shelf, doing the damage stated. Oil the charge of drunkenness accused was convicted and discharged. For assaulting the barmaid he ifas fined £1, or seven days' imprisonment, and on the third charge was fined a similar amount, and ordered to make good the damage done,' in default fourteen days' imprisonment. BOYS AND A CHINESE. ' Two youths, Charles King, alias Hatley, and Prank Dean, alias Wilson, appeared on a joint charge of attempted robbery under arms at the > house of Young Tim, Clrinese market gardenor, of 1 araparaumu. j Sub-Inspector Norwood Applied for a further remand until Thursday next. Mr. T. W. Hislop, for accused, asked toy a reduction of the bail (J825 and one surety of a like amount) previously fixed ill Dean's 'ate. Dean's father was absent on t... West Coast, and the youth had been supporting his mother. His Worship reduced the bail to £15 aud one surety of a like amount, and also granted the remand asked for." .THEFT OP MILK CANS. Further evidence was taken in the cases against William Hill, touching tho alleged .theft of three milk cans, tho property of Georgo Nash and Daniel Kavanagh. On the. iirst charge accused was fined • £1, with witnesses'' expenses £\ l!)s.; on the second a similar fine was imposed, with _ 165." witnesses' expenses; and on the third he was convicted and discharged. Mr. J, J. Devine defended. CHARGE THAT FAILED. Herbert Moore, for whom Mr. lurkcaldie appeared, was charged on remand with the theft of .£lB from John Ilenrv Miller and John Thomas Hawthorne, at Petone, on May M last. After tho evidence of John Henry Miller ' had been heard, his Worship dismissed- tho charge on the grounds that there was no evidence of theft. , INSOBRIETY. James Roy, charged with insobriety, was declared to bo a habitual drunkard, and sentenced to twenty-one days' imprisonment. For obtaining liquor during the currency of a prohibition order, the same offender was convicted and discharged. Mr. Dix appeared for accused. Ada Edwards, _ with eleven previous convictions for insobriety, was declared a habitual drunkard and sentenced to twenty-ono days' imprisonment. Luke Farrell, charged with insobriety, was, on tho application of the police, remanded till July 25. Two first offenders were convicted and discharged, and two other delinquents forfeited their bail of 10s. OTHER CASES. Charles Francis Pulley,. charged with allowing a vehiclo to remain on tho street at night without lights, was convicted and fined 10s., with' 7s. costs, in default 48 hours' imprisonment. A- case against Arthur Harold Smith, who was charged with disobeying an order for the maintenance of his children, was adjourned for a month in order to givo him an opportunity of reducing the arrears. Georgo Henry" Mcars wa3 ordered to pay 10s. monthly towards tho support of his mother. 11l tho maintenance caso of Amy Stevens v. Charles Stevens, defendant was ordered to pay 15s. weekly towards his wife s support.
