HUTT AND PETONE NEWS.

Mr. Sanderson, occupied the chair at the Hutt Ratepayers' Association meeting, in the local Town Hall Buildings last- evening. - The attendance was fair. Owing to Major M'Donald having resigned, his position as president, Mr. Orton Stevens was unanimously elected to the position. The Executive Committee, who have been holding weekly meetings since the initiation of the association, submitted a report, which stated that it was proposed to sub-divide the borough into sections, each section to nominate a chairman who would be entitled to hold w seat on the ej»cutiv,e, and to place the and grievances of their particular section before .the committee. Tho executive were granted power to add to their number. A largely-attended meeting of the Hutt Valley Executive Committee for Dr. Henry's mission was held in Petone last night; the. Rev. A. Thomson occupying the chair. Final arrangements . were made for the onening of the' mission in tho, Petone Drill Hall next Saturday, when a welcome tea will'bo held at 5.30 p;ra. The Bible classes are to be asked to distribute the invitation tickets for tho men's meeting. It was resolved to invito the Wellington. Mission Choir to assist .during th'e mission. The monthly "social" in connection with tho Petone Wesley Guild was , held last. evening. The large number -.present spent a .most enjoyableevening _ with games, competitions, :etc.'_ Miss KibbLk white was awarded the prize in the principle competition. Tho business before Mr. WiR. Haselden. at the Petone Magistrate's Court yesterday morning was not very lensthj. E. Hoare, Cecil Smith, and G. H. legg, prohibited persons, were each fined.4os. for procuring liquor;. On a further charge of' being found drunk on licensed premises, iLegg was conyicted and discharged. Kate Cook made application for a summary separation and maintenance order, .with custody of children, against her husband, W. H. Cook. Tlie case .was dismissed. Mr. Fitzgibbon appeared for the applicant, and Mr. Jackson',for defendant.
