A acronj south-east galo is btuw. nig, and shipping. is sheltering. (Rec. July. 18, 8.45 p.m.) The galo is the heaviest experienced for a long time, and is accompanied by an incessant downpour of rain. It is seriously interfering with telegraphic communication. ' So far there is no sign of the storm abating^ A heavy, sea is running all along the j coast, and vessels arriving report having had aft extremely rough time. Many are sheltering. Considerable damage has been done in the city by' the high wind, and the flood waters are finding their way into the houses. Low-lying lands round* Marrickville, Kogarah,' Rockdale, Tempe, and Raiidwick. are submerged. Many residents have been compelled to leave their houses. A record fall of snow is reported from the Blue HEAVY SNOWFALL ON MOUNTAINS. (Hoc. July 18, 10.25 p.m.) ' Sydney, July 18. • Daring the gale" the ferry traffic on the harbour was completely dislocated. A number of vessels broke from their moorings, one or two drifting ashore. Eighteen inches of snow has fai.ep on the mountains. The drifts- in p.aces arc so deep as to delay the trains, which on their arrival in Sydney presented an unusual sight, being covered witli snow. During the gale two telephone. linesmen, Matheson and Hogg, were repairing the lines at Alexandria, when a piece of,galvanised iron was blown from a roof and cut the jrires, ill which the men became entangled. • i. . Both were electrocuted.
