EDUCATION BOARDS' CONFERENCE.
' WANGANUI PROPOSALS. (By TeleeraDt—Prcsa Association.) Feilding, July 15. In contraction- with the conference of delegates of education boards, which is to open in Wellington on August 23, the chairman of the Wanganui Education Board is issuing to boards throughout the. Dominion a circular bearing upon matters to-be dealt with, by conferimce. Tim 'Waiigaiiui Board, at whoso suggestion thu conference is being held; is incorporating in its chairman's circular the following list of subjects 'for tho conference. -It is expected that I other boards will send in romits nl'so covering the subjects hero stated, but it is sot forth in the circular that, if other boards ilo not cover these subjects, tho Wanganui Board's delegates will present remits thereupon. The following is the list of subjects:— The relations existing between tho boarde and tho Department. Control of secondary education. Secondary departments in district high schools to be replaced by suitable courses at technical schools. ;_ Revision of boundaries of education" districts in the direction of increasing the area of the smaller districts. Compulsory technical education. Scholarships for agriculture and domestic science. Agricultural education, woodwork, and cookery in country schools. Maintenance allowance for technical schools, pupils with' competency certificates to be allowed to attend practical courses as free-place pupils. Government subsidies for voluntary contributions towards all primary echool committees' funds. Medical inspection of school children. Universal grading, classification, and transfer of teachers. No deduction to bo made from the salaries of pupil-teachers attending the training colleges who do relieving work in the holidays. Building and maintenance, grants.Travelling expenses of teachers attending classes and technical instructors in country districts to be paid by road as well as by rail. ■ Reinstatement of buildings destroyed by fire. Purchase of school sites and additions thereto:—Grants for now schools and additions to I>o based on tk> mwm between the average roll and the average attendance. Installation of sewerage. Teachers' residences and grants for boards' offices and maintenance. Boards to specify individual schools where individual examination of pupils is hot required. Reduction of school hours for the purposes of Bible instruction. Free school books. Boy Scouts u, supersede Cadets at [ji'imary schools.
