A Rangitlkel Wedding. A pretty -wedding was celebrated al Taikorea this week, when Miss Florence Maud Print, second daughter of Mr. Richard Print, of ..Taikorea, was. married to Mr. Thomas Barnett Smith, of Rapanui,Wftnganui, The ceremony took place at the residence of the brido's parents, the Rev. G: Frost, of Sandon, officiating. Miss Agnes Reed, Hastings, and Miss Bertha Print (sister of the bride) were, bridesmaids, while Mr. Edward, Charles Print acted as best man. A Creytown Wedding. A quiet wedding took place on Thursday afternoon at the residence of Mr. F. v S. Hayes, Greytown, . when _ Miss 'Edith Louisa Hayes was married .to Mr. Henry Harrold' Phelps, son of Mr.James Phelps, of Matarawa. Tho Roy. G. EL Stowell was the officiating minister, Miss Graco Hayes was bridesmaid, and' Mr. E. Phelps, brother of the-bridegroom, was best man. Afterwards a-reception was held'at the residence of the brido's parents. _ . Reception to Mrs. Wilford. "s ■ The Mayor and: councillors yesterday afternoon gave, a reception for . Mrs. Wilford at the' Mayor's Room at the Town : Hall. '.The worn 'was; decorated with quantities of wattle, spring floweTs and camellias. Tea was served in the Boom adjoining. Mr. J.' P.' Luke, on ■ behalf of [ the councillors, ■ welcomed Mrs., Wilford, ■' congratulating, her upon .the honour: that had recently been conferred upon her father, Sir-George M'Lean, and in her reply Mrs. Wilford, who said' she was delighted to • be home again, thanked him for this reference. The Mayor afterwards thanked the councillors for their welcomo to his wife. Mrs. 'Wilford-wore a costume of cream serge, and hat with vieux rose flowers, Lady M'Lean, who came with her, wore violet, and Mrs. Read, Mrs. Wilford's sister, who came up from Oamaru to welcome her, wore a vieux rose costume with hat to match. Amongst the guests, councillors' wives, and lieads of departments; were tho Misses M'Lean, Mrs. W. H. Field, Mrs. Devine, Mrs. J. P. Luke, Mr. and Mrs. Palmer, Mr. and Mrs. Morton, Mr. and Mrs: Collins, Mr. and Mrs, O'Shea, Mr. Richardson, and Mr. Maughan Barnett. Afterwards tho Mayoress attended the reception to the American footballers. "Mother's Day." ; Tho inauguration of the institution known as "Mother's Day" will • tako place at the on Sunday afternoon. It will be for men, and will bo addressed by Mr. 0. H. Poole, M.P., and Mrs. A. R. Atkinson, while,the Hon. Geo. Fowlds, M.P., will occupy tho chair. Each man who attends this mooting will be asked to wear a white flower in his buttonhole A suggestion has been made,that each man \yho attends tho service .should write an account of the gathering and send it home. The irises, for instance, who are big girls, wear most artistic frocks with bluo velvet petals curving out over skirts of shadowy green, tho bodices composed, of potals of paler bluo, and the headdress shaped liko a white iris. The field daisies havo white petals tipped with pink arid touches of pale grden at tho waist. Tho General Committee of the children's flower pageant notifies, in. our advertising columns that satisfactory arraiigomonts havo boon made for providing supper at tho close of tho pageant. A meeting of tho central branch of the Women's Christian Temperance Union was held yesterday afternoon. A unanimous resolution approving tho demands of tho Now Zealand Alliance Convention was passed. Also a resolution approving of tho stand taken by tho press, tho churches, and several members of Parliament with regard to ,tho abolition of bookmakers. A press superintendent was appointed.
Saje of Work at Karori. On Thursday afternoon a sale of work in aid of the funds of tho church was opened by Mrs. ,'J": ]?. Luke, in tho Parochial Hall, Karori; The various stalls woro well supplied, with attrac- "' tivo articles, and in i spite 'of tho wet weather a number of .visitors were present, and a good trade .was done'. A novel feature of the sale ■ .which' brought in much coin was a voting ■, competition on an exhibit of bags. These bags were all made of material costing loss than one shilling, and each voter put a penny in the hag she liked best, a very simple way'of making a collection.
