Mackenzie, Minister for Agriculture, when he declared the inhibition'open'.. The display comprised, amongst others, an exhibition of tho Kidil-iniliijig, machine, P. and D. Duncan's '.agricultural implements, Hirst's studs, Uorlliwick's Waitara manures, Nobel's explosives, Gcnasco roofing felt, in all of which Messrs. Newton King possess tho solo Taranaki agencies. The Kidd milking .machine was very much in evidence, and ,its demonstrations of milking tv;ice daily attracted large attendances of farmers. Special stress was laid upon the fact that the machine milks, but does not •suck,, and' that no matter how strange! (ho cbwa were to milking machines, they accepted the Ridd as a matter of course. At the Hawera Show, strange cows wero milked successfully every day. It is infer'istiuy *° ' I,>tc > ua vriiienee uf the wanner in which the Ridd has gained its way into popular favour, tjjat it_ has established record orders at every winter uhow this season in the North Island, in addition to. its. successful introduction into Australia. At the Hamilton Show ho-' fewer than thirty . orders were received for IJidd milkers for the .coming, season, all other milkers being easily distauced. '..._' The seed display in another portion of the'building was well arranged, and of very.useful interest. Hirst's London seeds,- for which Messrs. . Newton King have held the sole Taranaki agency for . the past, thirty years, occupied a very prominent position, with their white and red ' clovers, rape, alsyke, lucerne, • timothy, mustard, cow .'grass, and some very fine specimens of mangels, swedes., and white turnips. Boilhwick's and other manures, such as basic sing, were all well shown in nice clean white bags, neatly ticketed. Near by were specimens of maize, peas, and yarrow, flanked by Genaseo rooting felt and similar material. Another section was devoted to the Wyandotte cleaner and cleanser., Other sections were devoted to sheep dip (Cooper's and Little's) and Nobel's explosives. A demonstrative legend farther on referred to the skin and hides sold bv the-company for the year ended June 7,'-li)p9. In all there were sold 17,569 hides, 38,829 sheepskins, 13,373 calfskins, 70-1 bales, and 1663-sacks of-wool, 3GB casks and 570 tins of tallow. In the machinery department were Duncan's d.f.. convertible to s.f.,.ploughs, s.f. lever and s.f. hand ploughs, tripod, disc, tine, and Noxon harrows, and Duncan cultivators.. Altogether, the exhibit was regarded 'as one of the finest of its kind J secn : 'in' any agricultural hall displav m' the Dominion. . Messrs. Newton' King havo. their head office in New 'Plymouth, with branches at Stratford and Kaponga. In addition to being merchants in a large way, the firm has an extensive land, business controlled by Mr. Orbell, and ah active stuff.
