EXECUTIVE MEETING.. ■ The monthly meeting of (.he Taranaki Executive, of tho New Zealand Farmers' Union was held on Thursday. Present: Messrs. J. Davidson, vice-pre-sident (in, tho chair), 11. Lambiu, W. Cleaver, H. Sutherland, J. Thomson, •H. Q. Sergei, E. Marfell, W. ltogers, and A. Hunter. •■■•■■■■ A letter was received from tho Minister for Public Works in answer to tho .executive's resolution asking that the cost of supervision, etc., be. paid out of, the grant. Tlic reply was to, the effect that,- in new country, tho Department' woUld make traction-roads free. General satisfaction was expressed with the terms of the letter, and it was resolved: "That tho correspondence between the executive and the Minister for Public .Works be forwarded to tho County Councils Conference, which is to be heldi in Wellington, and that the conference be asked to .take/ what steps 'it'may think'proper in the matter." The Department of Agriculture • forwarded a copy of the- new Journal of Agriculture. It was . resolved: "That the copy be received, and that the executive express its appreciation to tho Minister for Agriculture for issuing th« monthly journal, and recognises this as a. distinct step forward." ~ Oil the motion of Mr: Sergei, seconded by Mr. Cleaver,' it was resolved: "Tliaji all the branches in Taranaki bo asked to carry out manuring experiments, and keep records of same; also, that they should be urged to make use of the services of Mr. Bayliss, of tho Experimental .Department, . and that they should bo informed that the Department gives manure for experiments free." .. ' -A"vote of condolence was passed with the widow of tho late Mr. J. Arthur Jones,' a former member of the, executive. _ It was also resolved tliat, the executive record its appreciation of the late Mr. Jones's services on behalf of the Farmers* Union.
