NOTES AND COMMENTS. TEACK GALLOPS. ACCIDENT TO jr. DEEBLE.

(BY GM.ncok.)

For tlio training oi>erations at Trenthnin yesterday morning the conditions were satisfactory, though tlio weather was cold and occasional light showers of ruin fell. The outside of tho course proper was open for fast work, and the majority of tho horses got through their tasks on that track. The going was oil tho heavy side. A large number of horses had arrived overnight, but there were still several of the candidates in the principal handicaps that hail not put in ail appearance. Of the Parliamentary Handicap horses, California (Griffiths) galloped lour furlongs with Tina Toa in 53sec., and then wont onco round at a slow pace. Tho San Fran liorso is in great heart, and easily heat Tina Toa in tho sprint. North East (Ayres) and N'gupuka (Deeley) finished together at tho end of six furlongs, run in Imin. iiOscc.—a good gallop. Bolliu did slow work. Paisano did useful half-paco work, and is apparently in nico trim'. Waiono jumped tho big fences. Tauira was sent two miles on the flat, and covered rather moro than tho full distance in imin. 2sec. Woolloomooloo did half-paco work. Pa'ritutu was sent a couplo of rounds and jumped four hurdles, but did not shape too well at the jumps. Mahuta easily beat Inehbonny over seven furlongs in Imin. 38 l-sscc. Xavier arid Pen de Joic got through useful tasks. Capitol (Deeble), Waione (Stewart), Maidi (Abbott), and Southern Cross wero taken out to jump the big fences.. Southern Cross again refused at tho first fence, and Maidi, though she got round safely, ran across tho course at almost every fenco. Capitol and Waiono kept together over the first five fences, and the former appeared to bo doing his work easily and well until ho ■came to the brush at.tho three furlongs post, where he camo to grief last year. Ho then got his front feet on the 'lop of the jump, and had a very bad fall, rolling partly over on tho lop of his jockey. Waiono cleared the fallen horse and rider safely, and Capitol galloped up the course, but Deeblo was stunned for some minutes. J. Delaney, who was on the track, promptly caught Capitol and rode- bafck to where tho injured jockey lay. When Deeble came to it was discovered that he had fractured his left arm below the elbow, and after first aid was rendered ho was driven to Lower Hutt for medical attention. Capitol was bleeding at the nose after the accident, but there did not look/ to bo anything seriously amiss witli him. Other steeplechase candidates, including Kiatere, Aiulax, Red M'Gregor, Lovell, and Beeline, worked on the ilat. Stayboy, in company with White Coelcade, jumped exceptionally well over the schooling hurdles yesterday, and White Cockades display was fair. Arclight jumped two hurdles twice, shaping well. On Friday night Inst burglars visited the residenco of tho well-known trainer, 1). Bannatyne, at Ellcrslie. It was just on midnight (says tho "Star") when a lad named ICelly, employed by Bannatyne, heard someone prowling around, and, on getting up to investigate, whs struck over tho head with a blunt instrument, which inflicted a nasty wound and knocked the lad down. Owing to tho darkness, Kelly was u'nablo to see tlio intruders, or form any idea of how many tliero' were, but evidently the visit had been planned, for a bulldog belonging to tho house was found next morning suffering from the after effects of what was evidently a drug administered to quieten him.
