. » CITY COUNCIL APPROACHED. ■ A sports ground and pleasure resort, presumably a miniature "Coney Island," js proposed 'to be established at Lyall Bay, if all goes well. At the meeting of the City Council last evening, the Tramways Committee reported that it had recently been interviewed by a deputation representing a company, now being promoted to establish such a sports ground and pleasure resort, to ascertain whether greater tramway facilities than at present exist will be provided to carry intending passengers to the bay. The deputation. stated' that from information in their possession they anticipated that 200,000 persons would require to be carried to the sports ground per annum. The committee informed the deputation .that it would require to be supplied with full particulars before it could make a recommendation to the council in the matter.
