POPE MODIFYING ENCYCLICAL. By Telegraph—Press Association-Copyright-(Rec. July 12, 10.10 p.m.) Berlin, July 12. The "Vossische Zeitung" states that Pope Pius has replied to the King of Saxony stating that he hrtd no wish to affront German, Protestants, and had withdrawn the offending passages in the Borromeo Encyclical, in which Protestant reformers had been denounced.
The Borromeo Encyclical has evidently led to some embarrassment. Yesterday it was cabled that the Vatican had assured the Netherlands Government that the Encyclical was in nowise intended to apply to the Princes of Orange nnd-Nas-san. nor to Queen Wilhelmina's nonCatholic subjects and ancestors. - •
